5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (2024)

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto series and focuses primarily on the story of Boruto Uzumaki, the son of Naruto and Hinata. Set years after the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Boruto series throws focus on the next generation of shinobi who have decided to take up the mantle from Naruto's generation.

Ever since the series kicked start, the question of whether it lives up to the standards that Naruto set has been discussed a lot, and there are quite a few reasons for fans to be taking a look at it.

10 WORTH WATCHING: Naruto Uzumaki Gets To Be Hokage In The Boruto Series

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (1)

Throughout theNaruto series, Naruto Uzumaki dreamed of becoming the Hokage and beingacknowledged by everyone. Unfortunately, the story only spent a little time actually show him as the Hokage.

Boruto fixes this issue, as for the entire series so far, Naruto Uzumaki is the Hokage of Konohagakure and gets to live out his dream, which makes it worth watching.

9 NOT: There Is Too Much Anime Canon Content In The Story

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (2)

While Boruto side-steps the filler conundrum that Naruto had to deal with, it relies on anime-canon content that doesn't happen in the manga but is very much a part of the canon.

Unfortunately, despite that, the story focuses very little on the manga canon, and for the majority of the time, fans are treated with supplementary materialthat isn't nearly as interesting as the manga.

8 WORTH WATCHING: The Show Has Some Of The Most Incredibly Animated Episodes

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (3)

When it comes to Boruto, the animation is almost always quite enjoyable, and for a few episodes, the quality shoots through the roof thanks to the incredible effort of the staff working on them.

Being a battle shonen, action and fights are core aspects of Boruto, and thanks to these episodes which pop up often, it is safe to say that Boruto ranks among the very best in this department.

7 NOT: The Show Made Naruto & Sasuke Weak For The Sake Of The Plot

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (4)

Boruto focuses on the next generation of shinobi so it is understandable that the story won't feature Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha as much. However, nerfing these legendary characters to push them out of the way and then portraying the next generation as the savior is something that doesn't sit wellwith a lot of fans.

The next generation is perfectly capable of taking the main stage without needing to sacrifice the old legends from the Naruto series.

6 WORTH WATCHING: ItPuts The Much-Needed Focus On The Otsutsuki Clan Lore

The Otsutsuki clan was introduced in the Naruto series toward the very end of the Fourth Great Ninja War through Hagoromo and his mother, Kaguya Otsutsuki. While the threat of Kaguya was dealt with eventually, her mysterious clan had left fans with a lot of questions.

Thanks to Boruto, this problem no longer exists as the story is slowly diving deep into the Otsutsuki lore and explaining everything that Naruto left unexplained.

5 NOT: Boruto Strays Away From The Shinobi Way Quite Often

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (6)

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations might be its own series, but it is set in the world of Naruto and is a story about ninja. While the age of ninja is very much still alive, most villains in the story rely on scientific technology to be able to put up a fight.

Even characters like those of the Otsutsuki rely on similar powers, which takes away quite some enjoyment from the story as a whole.

4 WORTH WATCHING: BorutoPuts More Focus On The Side-Characters

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (7)

One of Naruto's biggest criticisms from the fans was the lack of time offered to the side-characters, who stagnated toward the later parts of the story. While nobody can predict how things will turn out later in Boruto, for now, fans are loving what they're seeing when it comes to the side characters.

Thanks to the anime canon content, many side-characters in the Boruto series receive more screen-time and are thus more enjoyable.

3 NOT: Boruto Brings Back Dead Characters& Ends Up Ruining Their Legacy

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (8)

It's no surprise that the Boruto series is using characters from Naruto who made a great impact to make the current story more interesting. A few characters who died in Boruto, like Ao and Jiraiya have already reappeared in the series in some shape or form.

Ao was completely modified by the scientific ninja technology of Kara, while Jiraiya was cloned by Amado to create Kashin Koji. At the same time, Onoki was simply killed off after he almost became a villain.

2 WORTH WATCHING: Boruto Has A Much Better Female Protagonist

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (9)

The female characters in Naruto were, quite easily, some of the most average ones in shonen, especially toward the latter half of the story. Most of Kishimoto's focus went toward Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha while Sakura, who deserved much more attention, fell behind.

In Boruto, that's not the case as Sarada is the successor of Sasuke Uchiha and has the same dream as Naruto himself, thus having tremendous potential.

1 NOT: Boruto's Villains Aren't Interesting

5 Reasons Boruto Is Worth Watching (& 5 It's Not) (10)

The biggest villains in Boruto appear to be those of the Otsutsuki Clan. Among them, Kara, a group established by Isshiki Otsutsuki, was introduced and while interesting, they certainly lack quite a lot of depth.

When put next to to the likes of Akatsuki, Kara pales in comparison as the villains don't have much personality, other than their leader, Jigen.
