5-Minute Morning Metabolism Booster Drink
This 5-Minute Morning Metabolism Booster Drink is just as effective as the wellness shots that are incredibly popular in the health and fitness communities but at a fraction of the cost! It’s packed with metabolism-boosting, active ingredients like fresh ginger, lemon, and apple cider vinegar and is stored in the fridge all week long. Prep it tonight and speed up the fat-burning process asap!
This drink has been part of my morning ritual for over 4 years now. I take it on a daily basis before my breakfast and after my morning workout (getting enough physical activity is key for energy production and overall health!). I find it to be a wonderful way to start my day with a healthy mindset and it gives me the motivation to continue with a healthy mindset throughout the day. It makes me feel energized, less bloated, and I’ve gone entire winters without getting sick!
Now, whether I can attribute these health benefits to this metabolism booster drink, I can’t say for sure. And as always, it’s important to consult your own health care provider regarding any pre-existing medical conditions before incorporating anything new in your routine. I am not a doctor and this metabolism drink is not a substitute for medical advice.
But in my case, it’s certainly not hurting anything or causing negative side effects. It’s made with natural ingredients, I’ve been feeling really good in my own skin, so for that reason alone, I say metabolism boosting shots all around!
So whether you’re on a weight loss journey, working on improving your insulin sensitivity, or simply wanting to feed your gut microbiome some health-packed essentials, let’s get into the details!
This Metabolism Booster is….
- Quick and simple
- Easy to incorporate into your daily routine

Ingredient Notes and Health Benefits
This recipe is PACKED with ingredients that are not only known to help boost your metabolism, but also improve energy levels, decrease bloating, and boost your immune system. If you’re looking for the best duo to keep you from getting sick year round, pair this metabolism booster with myImmunity Boosting Juice.
Here are the 5 must-have ingredients in this metabolism booster:
Lemon Juice
Freshly squeezed lemon juice is rich in Vitamin C, aids digestion, and is packed with antioxidants. If you’re not a fan of drinking plain water, try adding a few slices of fresh lemon to the water. It’ll taste delicious and help encourage you to hydrate throughout the day.
Replacing the freshly squeezed lemon juice with pre-bottled won’t have the same effect. Bottled lemon juice is diluted and contains preservatives to make it shelf stable. If you’re serious about reaping all the benefits of these metabolism-boosting ingredients, fresh is a non-negotiable.
Apple Cider Vinegar
ACV is one of my favorite ingredients to include in a healthy, plant-based diet because it’s good for your skin (check out my tips for healthy glowing skin!), gut health, and helps manage my Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). It’s even been associated with lower insulin resistance and can act as a fat burning appetite suppressant that may aid in weight management. (Read the benefits backed by science here!)
Now a tip for buying aqualityapple cider vinegar! Make sure to buyraw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. The vinegar should be murky and sometimes even contain sediment, or “the mother,” at the bottom of the jar. If the liquid is clear – it won’t contain the essential live bacterial culture that your gut needs!
Ginger
Fresh ginger root is pungent, spicy, and has been valued for its health benefits in holistic medicine for centuries.Dietician Candace O’Neill, RD, LDN shares ginger’s multitude of health benefitsincluding inflammation reduction, pain relief, improved regulation of blood sugar (high blood sugar levels is what causes the body to store fat!), lowered cholesterol levels, antibacterial properties, and aid with the effects of nausea.
Again, for best results, it’s important to use a fresh knob of ginger. If you only have ground ginger on hand, add it to your glass in the morning instead of infusing in the water overnight.
Cinnamon
You may not think cinnamon has any health benefits because of gooey baked goods likeVegan Cinnamon Rolls, but cinnamon sticks are actually known to have tons of anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory effects, and has recently even beenstudied for its ability to control blood glucose levels. This isn’t to say that eating cinnamon rolls every morning will help you achieve a faster metabolism, but cinnamon is certainly not an ingredient you should skimp on!
For this recipe, I typically use 1 extra-large cinnamon stick, but 2 smaller sticks works perfectly!
Cayenne Pepper
Add a final zing to the mix with a pinch of cayenne pepper or red chili flakes. Chili peppers not only add an addictive kick to your metabolism booster, but give you a final boost of health benefits, too!
How to Make a Metabolism Booster Drink
Before we get started, it’s important to note that this healthy metabolism boosting drink is meant to steep overnight before you drink your first drink. I love making mine on a Sunday night so I can pour a glass every morning before breakfast throughout the week.
I promise it’s really quick and simple
The Night Before
Add the sliced ginger to a large jar or juice jug. Next, add the cinnamon stick plus the filtered water. This is going to be the base of the metabolism booster that you’ll add to your beverage every morning.
As the week progresses, the ginger and cinnamon will continue to infuse the water and make it taste better and better each day that passes.
If you run out of water during the week, add more fresh water to the jar (with the cinnamon and ginger) for a second infusion.
Every Morning
Juice your lemon into the bottom of a drinking glass of choice. Add the apple cider vinegar and a pinch of chili flakes, then top it off with as much or as little of the infused ginger water as you’d like! (If the drink is too strong, add more infused water to dilute it).
Repeat this process each morning. If you run out of your infused water, refill the juice jug and re-use the sliced ginger and cinnamon!

Recipe FAQs
Why not take a spoonful of apple cider vinegar instead?
If you’ve been looking for the best metabolism boosters on the internet, you’ve likely come across the popular advice to take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar each morning. I personally don’t believe it’s the best solution to burning fat or increasing a slow metabolism.
It’s way too strong, burns your throat, and it’s also really not good for your teeth. Instead, use this diluted version! You’ll reap the same benefits without damaging your esophagus or tooth enamel.
What foods increase metabolism rate?
There are several types of foods that can further help increase your metabolism throughout the day. Here are a few of my favorite foods to incorporate in a healthy diet, plus a sample daily meal plan for a sluggish metabolism:
Sample Meal Plan
- Morning Beverages:After my metabolism booster drink, I always drink aHomemade Matcha Latte with Almond Milk. If you don’t love matcha, try thisTeaTox!
- Breakfast:Acai Bowl(great source of fatty acids!) orCoconut Chia PuddingwithCoconut Yogurtfor probiotics. If you prefer a warm breakfast, make myEasy Oatmeal Recipe or Quinoa Porridge.

Will this drink interrupt my intermittent fast?
I’m not personally a strict intermittent faster, but if it were me, I wouldn’t associate this metabolism boosting drink with breaking the fast. Many people that intermittent fast have a cup of black coffee each morning without breaking their fast, but it’s up to you! Do what’s best for you.
Should I drink all 4 cups every morning?
Oh, no! The infused water is meant to last the full week. Only add as much as you need to your drinking glass each morning to dilute the lemon and apple cider vinegar to taste. If you run out of water throughout the week, refill your jug with filtered water. The ginger infuse will be less intense the second time around, but still works great!
